The 17th District state Senate race between incumbent Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, and Rep. Tim Probst, D-Vancouver, resulted in a Benton victory on Wednesday, after Clark County election officials finished a hand recount. The 17th District House race between Monica Stonier and Julie Olson also will be recounted by hand.

Oregon State Police A Woodland woman driving her 2003 Volkswagen Jetta east on Highway 36 at Alderwood State Park in Lane County, Ore. lost control of her car on a curve, which traveled off the highway, struck and knocked over a utility pole and came to rest on its top. It was one of many local traffic accidents Friday.
