From left, Kelly Johnson, a Battle Ground school district psychologist; Krista Roadifer, a school counselor at Chief Umtuch Middle School; Madison Schumacher, 14, and Sarah Miller, 14, both eighth grade students at Chief Umtuch, stand outside the school in the reflection of a classroom window. Two eighth grade girls who attended Chief Umtuch Middle School in Battle Ground committed suicide. The school staff has aggressively addressed the issues of teen suicide, bullying and cyberbullying in an advisory class, assemblies and a workshop for parents. The school also trains students in peer mediation to help kids work out problems before they get out of hand.
