Henrietta Lacks' cancerous cells were harvested without her knowledge and cultured for medical research to create an immortal cell line. Her story was told in the nonfiction book "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" by Portland author Rebecca Skloot. HeLa High is the first school building in the nation to be named for her.

Terrina Vough, the mother of Joseph Reilly, said her son's recovery has been nothing short of amazing. He still has a long road ahead, but he's now talking and regaining control of some of his right side. Reilly was hit by a car in November while walking to work on Hwy. 99.

Billygan's Roadhouse in Salmon Creek was closed by health officials on Friday after 22 people became ill after eating at the restaurant last weekend. Officials allowed the restaurant to reopen Monday afternoon.

Choate, a now-retired aircraft logistics specialist at Hill Air Force Base, said he nearly lost his security clearance and job. Utah state trooper Lisa Steed stopped him because he was wearing a Halloween costume and booked him even though three breathalyzers tests showed no alcohol in his system. Choate said he spent $3,800 and had to take four days off of work to get his DUI charged dismissed.

Police rope off the scene of a shooting and multicar accident on the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas early Thursday. Authorities say at least one person in a Range Rover shot at people in a Maserati that then crashed into a taxi cab. The taxi cab burst into flames, and the driver and passenger were killed. The male driver of the Maserati also died, and his passenger was shot.
