A 9-pound Chihuahua-pinscher mix named Kudo was allegedly subjected to cruelty and abuse at the hands of his temporary caretaker, Kevin Dean Parrish, 20, of Lyons, Ore. Parrish admitted to deputies that he put him in an oven preheated to 350 degrees.

A large landslide in late December pulled away the shoulder of state Highway 501 east of Ridgefield, leaving guardrails hanging in midair at one point, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. Crews hope to have the highway, and its foundation, repaired next month.

A Harris Precinct 4 Constable blocks off an entrance to the Lone Star College North Harris campus after a shooting on Tuesday in Houston. The shooting on campus wounded three people and sent students fleeing for safety as officials placed the campus on lockdown, officials said. Harris County Sheriff's Maj. Armando Tello said authorities had detained a person of interest. Police did not provide any details about the people who were wounded.
