The Interstate 5 Bridge across the Columbia River, seen Wednesday looking southwest from Vancouver, includes two spans. The northbound span was built in 1917, and the southbound span was added in 1958. A portion of the bridge can be raised to 178 feet to accommodate river traffic, but those bridge lifts halt road traffic.
