White Salmon River
The White Salmon River has taken on a whole new identity in the months since the Condit Dam was removed.
Portland resident Phil Geffner paddles his kayak down the White Salmon River near Northwestern Park. Geffner, who owns Portland's Escape From New York Pizza restaurant, said he's seen significant changes on the river upstream of the former Northwestern Lake. Since the breaching of Condit Dam last year, steelhead, spring chinook salmon, fall chinook salmon and bull trout have all been reported upstream of the former hydroelectric facility. Crews removed the last of Condit Dam earlier this month.
