Bio: Ann Rivers was appointed to the Washington state Senate in June of 2012 to replace former state Sen. Joseph Zarelli, who resigned May 31, 2012. Prior to her Senate appointment, Rivers was serving in the Washington state House. She was elected to the House in 2010.

In the House, Rivers was the assistant whip for the House Republican Caucus. She also served on the House's Business and Financial Services Committee, Judiciary Committee, Transportation Committee and Rules Committee. The Rules Committee decides which bills to send to a vote on the House floor.

Rivers is president of a public relations and government affairs consulting firm, and she lobbied for Battle Ground Public Schools during the 2009 Legislature. She earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Central Michigan University.
