Bio: Charles Ross, who is currently the minority floor leader, was born in Portsmouth, Va., and moved to the Yakima Valley as a young child. He grew up in Naches and graduated from Naches Valley High School in 1990. Ross served in the United States Navy from 1991-95, including duty on the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk during the Persian Gulf War.
He obtained an associate of arts degree at Yakima Valley College and studied mortuary science at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Ore. Ross is a licensed funeral director and has worked in the Yakima funeral home industry for 13 years.
The representative served on the Naches Town Council from 1997-2006, and was elected mayor of Naches in 1999. He has held state office since 2007. In the community, Ross has contributed to the Yakima County Health District’s Board of Directors and the Yakima County Mayors Association.
