January 2011 Polls

This uprising in Egypt is getting dangerous. I'm thinking:

President Hosni Mubarak should resign and let democracy blossom. (44.37% - 351 votes)

President Hosni Mubarak should hang tough because if he flees, militant Muslims would end up running the country. (24.78% - 196 votes)

I think it's too early to do anything. Let this play out for a little while. (30.85% - 244 votes)

Should Washington offer more specialty license plates?

Yes. Offering NASCAR or Oregon Ducks license plates allows drivers to show their spirit and adds money to the state budget. (36.52% - 42 votes)

No way. The many custom plates we have already are too confusing. (33.91% - 39 votes)

I'm going to buy the cheapest basic license plate and add a bumper sticker to support my team. (29.57% - 34 votes)

BPA says it might delay its planned new power line through Clark County. I'm thinking:

A consultant's recommendations to use the current system better is a great way to help homeowners along the proposed power line's route. (32.11% - 35 votes)

Everyone agrees this power line will be needed eventually. The Bonneville Power Administration should just build it now. (42.20% - 46 votes)

The whole idea of efficiency upgrades sounds more like a public relations strategy than a power transmission strategy to me. (25.69% - 28 votes)

I like changing our name to "The Couv" because:

We need to get ahead of the curve not stay behind the curve. "The Couv" has a modern, with-it feel. (7.62% - 144 votes)

Engineers can build a sidewalk where they "think" folks will walk. But in the end, walkers go where they go. If folks are calling us "The Couv," let's go with it! (3.70% - 70 votes)

After Vancouver firefighters asked for an 8.2 percent raise, would you vote for any tax to increase public safety causes?

Yes, the firefighters are worth every penny, they keep us safe. We need to give them more salary and improve the fire stations. (22.29% - 216 votes)

No, they get out-of-this-world salaries, benefits and pensions already. They get to retire a decade before the rest of us. More money for them is just crazy. (65.43% - 634 votes)

Brother can you spare a dime? (12.28% - 119 votes)

PeaceHealth says it will bring 700 new jobs here within 10 years. I'm thinking:

PeaceHealth's merger with the operator of Southwest Washington Medical Center is looking better and better for our community. (43.26% - 61 votes)

The new jobs are nice, but not at the cost of losing local control of our biggest hospital. (45.39% - 64 votes)

I couldn't care less; I get my health care at Legacy. (7.80% - 11 votes)

I get my health care in Portland. (3.55% - 5 votes)

After the Seahawks lost to Da Bears 35-24 Sunday I'm thinking:

The Seahawks played well and exceeded most expectations. (59.94% - 217 votes)

The "We all we got, we all we need" Seahawks chant needs to be modified. They "need" a bunch more. (33.98% - 123 votes)

If Coach Pete Carroll could have given just a dozen or so more motivational speeches to the team, things would have been different. (6.08% - 22 votes)

The Oregon Ducks lost 22-19 to the Auburn Tigers in the national championship game but I'm thinking:

The Ducks should simply stay the course because the game was so close. Next year. (45.47% - 427 votes)

The Ducks rely too much on gimmicks and trick plays. In the end they'll usually get beat by a good football team. (33.01% - 310 votes)

I smell an opening next year for Washington State! (21.51% - 202 votes)

The Bureau of Indian Affairs says the Cowlitz casino would employ 3,151 at an average annual wage of $28,000. I'm thinking:

The wage seems low, but many employees will earn nice tips. (37.93% - 88 votes)

The county doesn't need these low-wage jobs. (25.86% - 60 votes)

The city expects to hire a public relations/communications manager for around $100,000 including perks, at the same time it's trimming millions from its budget. I'm thinking:

If you look at the city as a large corporation, it needs a communications manager to put out a consistent message. (12.39% - 83 votes)

Couple this with the $100,000-firefighters wanting an 8 percent increase and we've got a city more out of touch than I thought possible. (73.58% - 493 votes)

Vancouver firefighters make around $100,000 a year when you add up all the perks and now are asking for an 8.2 percent raise. I'm thinking:

They deserve every penny. They work hard, it's dangerous and they might just save your life one day. (26.66% - 273 votes)

Here we go again. It's like they have no concept of what's going on. Public employees are trying to squeeze taxpayers even more than they already have. (25.39% - 260 votes)

Synthetic marijuana sold under names such as "K2" and "Spice" is being banned by the state. I'm thinking:

The ban is a good idea. Marijuana substitutes should be banned, along with the real thing. (46.63% - 90 votes)

Hey, this stuff is sold as incense. What's next, a ban on cinnamon? (8.29% - 16 votes)

The ban should be lifted, and sales of marijuana should be legal, too. (45.08% - 87 votes)
