That gave Battle Ground a 75-72 lead over Heritage, the 4A Greater St. Helens League dual-meet champion.

Lateashea Currie (100 meters, 12.4) and Chawncy McClenan (triple jump, 34-93⁄4) were winners for Heritage.

The Storm finished Wednesday with 95 points — 33.5 points better than second-place Heritage.

Lane won the high jump (6-2), Moncur took the 3,200 (9:43.6) and Hiett won the shot put (51.23⁄4).

Each of the other five schools in the meet had a district champion Wednesday — Mountain View’s Marcus Lathan (triple jump, 43-31⁄4) and Abby Binschaieg (300 hurdles, 40.9),

Taylor Schmidt of Prairie (pole vault, 14-4), Ty Lang of Heritage (100, 11.1), Brad Wall of Evergreen (400, 49.6), and Erik Cronrath of Battle Ground (800, 1:57.5).

The meet concludes Friday at McKenzie Stadium.

Baseball

Hockinson heads to state — The Hockinson Hawks are going back to the Class 2A state baseball tournament.

Jody Robertson’s run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning was the difference, giving the Hawks a 3-2 win over Aberdeen in the semifinals of the 2A District 4 baseball tournament.

Kyle Jones relieved Connor Perry with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning and recorded two strikeouts to get the save.

Hockinson will play River Ridge in the district title game at 5 p.m. Friday at W.F. West in Chehalis. Regardless of the outcome of that game, the Hawks will be going to state for the third consecutive season.

James MacDonald started the winning rally with a lead-off walk in the seventh inning. He stole second to get into scoring position, and Robertson drove him home from there.

MacDonald also tied the game with two-out triple in the fourth inning.

Aberdeen scored twice in the first inning before Perry shut down the Bobcats. Perry finished with four strikeouts.

The Bobcats, though, got a one-out double in the seventh before Jones came out of the bullpen. Jones got one strikeout before walking a batter to put the potential winning run on base. Jones then got another strikeout to end the threat, to save the game.

Girls golf

Jech wins district title — Union’s Kayla Jech recorded pars on the 16th and 17th holes to solidfy her lead and capture the Class 3A district golf championship at Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland.

Jaime Johnson of Camas was third (186), followed by teammate Brittanie Brooks (188), helping the Papermakers capture the team championship. Camas finished with 182.5 points to outdistance Kelso (171). Union was third (133.5).

The top four players at district earned automatic berths to the Class 3A state tournament in Bellingham. The next seven placers advanced to the bi-district tournament at Fort Lewis on Monday.
