Prep roundup: Danna Olson, Speer go 1-2 as Hockinson girls take district golf title

Hockinson’s Danna Olson shot a Day 2 77 to finish with a score of 151 and win the individual medal at the 2A district championship at Three Rivers Golf Course in Kelso.

The Hawks won the team title and had five golfers finish in the top 22 to advance to state.

Holly Speer took second with a 161 and Brianna Olson tied for fourth with a 167.

Woodland’s Nicole Sallee took the 22nd and final place to state with a 195.

Baseball

River Ridge 13, Hockinson 1 — River Ridge opened with a five-run first inning and cruised to the District 4 title at Chehalis.

Hockinson, the second seed from the district, will open play at regionals at 10 a.m. May 17 in Yelm.

Softball

Mark Morris 2, Ridgefield 0 — The Monarchs scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to edge the Spudders in 2A GSHL action. The Spudders finished 11-9 overall, 8-7 in the

GSHL after the regular season. They will next play W.F. West on Thursday.

Washougal 7, R.A. Long 5 — The Panthers concluded their season on a high note by upsetting the first place Lumberjacks in the regular season finale.

Washougal scored all seven runs in the first inning. Jona Ensley went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Marilyn Winders struck out five batters and earned the win.

La Center 5, Kalama 4 — Anna Hanover hit the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Wildcats to the 1A Trico League victory.

La Center ends the regular season 17-3 overall.

Kiley Monson went the distance and earned the win and Natasha Moore also had two RBI. The Wildcats will face Toledo on Wednesday in a district playoff game.

Girls tennis

The top four singles and doubles seeds at the 4A district tournament all advanced to the semifinals today at the Vancouver Tennis Center.

In singles play, No. 1 Abby Olbrich of Skyview will face No. 4 Julie Christen of Mountain View, and No. 3 Brittany Ellingsen of Skyview faces No. 2 Chaeran Kim of Mountain View.

The singles final is scheduled for noon (2:30 p.m. if it rains). The doubles final is 1:15 p.m. (3:45 p.m. if rain).

Track and field

The La Center and Stevenson girls dominated the Trico League championship, winning every event but three. But in the end, it was La Center’s depth that carried the Wildcats to the team championship.

La Center finished with 194 points to outdistance Stevenson (141). Kalama was third with 60 points.

Katrina Chamberlain was the standout for La Center, winning three events — the 100-meter hurdles (16.51), shot put (35-11) and high jump (5-2). Chamberlain also finished second in the triple jump.

Stevenson’s Amanda Stump also capture three league titles, winning the 100 (12.52), 200 (25.76) and 300 hurdles (46.44).

Kelsey Penner of Stevenson won the long jump (16-51⁄2) and the triple jump (34-21⁄2).

Other league champions included Stevenson’s Amber Terry in the 800 (2:28.44) and La Center’s Megan Governor in the 3,200 (12:36.61), Danielle Bars in the javelin (102-4) and Hannah Trigg in the pole vault (8-0).

Kalama won the boys title with 149 points. Stevenson was fourth (76) and La Center was fifth (61). Neither team had a league champion.

Today’s events

Berths to state are on the line in the following events today:

Baseball: Battle Ground vs. Lake Washington, 2 p.m. at Propstra Stadium.

Soccer: Evergreen vs. Eastlake, noon at McKenzie Stadium; Camas vs. Bonney Lake, 1 p.m. at Doc Harris Stadium; and Hudson’s Bay plays Sumner at 3 p.m. in Burien.
