Woodland softball stays alive

Emily Holt’s double drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday, saving the season for the Woodland High School softball team.

The Beavers beat Tumwater 3-2 in the pigtail game of the Class 2A District 4 softball tournament. Woodland will play Centralia in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament Thursday in Centralia.

Tumwater scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to force extra innings.

“We didn’t let down. We didn’t get mad at ourselves,” Woodland coach Damon Yeo said.

Holt also picked up the pitching victory, striking out five and going the distance.

Katie Wodage’s run-scoring single in the second inning started the scoring for Woodland. In the sixth, Holt tripled and scored on an error for a 2-0 lead.
