I realize that proposed bridge across the river is a LOT BIGGER project, but:
When the Highway Dept. released their plans for the St. Johns overpass (at 500) it initially stated the intention to simply shut St. Johns down at the work site until the work was completed.
The businesses just to the South of the bridge raised holy hell. They banded together and informed the Hwy. Dept. (whatever dept. it is) that plan would ruin them. They said many of their customers crossed there to reach their establishments.
The Dept. went back and took another look at their plan. That second look resulted in a revision where the interchange would not be shutdown. If I recall correctly the financial impact was near zero.
Something to consider?
And Vanwa: I find the Senators rant disingenuous at best. And I really do mean "at best."
Not to get into the whole climate change thing (anthro or otherwise), but it's called "tornado alley" for a reason. Hurricanes raking the Easter Seaboard is not something new.
Manipulating calamity in an effort to forward a political agenda? That gags me.
Have you done the same, Vanwa?
Dood's an idiot. Color him with any crayon you care to. An idiot is an idiot is an...an idiot by any other party affiliation would stink as foul.
I mean, do you give journalists carte blanche even when their actions can result in the loss of innocent lives?
What of "state secrets?" Where's the line between investigative reporting and treason?
Hmmm, are some of Temple Lentz posts defamatory? Is she even considered a jounalist? Does her standing (as one or t'other)have any consideration in the matter?
Though folks normally associate PTSD with combat troops, many more people who've never been in the service suffer from it. There are battered women, abused children, even folks who've been in car, plane crashes, etc.
The eCB system is the most prevalent in human biology. Heck, the biology of all animals. It was only recently uncovered while Mechoulam was investigated phytocannabinoids.
I think some really interesting "stuff" will come from the ongoing research.
I've nothing to comment on the current conversation. I quit reading HC after the last time he (he?) wrote "the biker way." I only go back and scan when it's necessary to get the gist of another poster's comments relative to.
So, skipping HC's stuff...I find myself with a lot of time on my hands.
I thought I would speak (write?) to the MX's question about atheists.
I am an atheist. Not agnostic this that or the other. I am of a mind there are no "gods." None. Nada. Zip.
And, I can speak for no other atheist than this one.
So, when someone asks "what do atheists..." I'm taken aback just a bit. It hits me almost like grits, greens, and watermelon. Sort of like "the biker way" does. 'Cuz we all look alike, right?
There is no god. And I'm just fine with god.
I'd be glad to talk about the wonder of the universe; stars bearing stars, stars bearing planets, bearing...us. The immensity of it all. I question if we will ever really understand the way of it.
And I would speak of your god. I'm no biblical scholar, but I can speak (somewhat) intelligently to the subject.
But going in realize, we won't be changing one anothers' minds. Should the conversation take the tone of proselytizing then, in my opinion, it's lost. There would be no point in continuing.
I don't "believe" in Jesus. But Jesus is alright with me.

What tips the scale?
