Crackdown focuses on homeless in Esther Short Park

"In the first two weeks, police handed out 23 fines for infractions like littering and drinking in public, wrote nine criminal citations and made one arrest. Those who do not appear for their court dates or pay their fines can be arrested and sent to jail. Judges can also ban offenders for a time from Esther Short Park."

Ok, so when they get a citation and dont go to their court date, they go to jail... where its warm and they get 3 meals a day and they dont have to be out in the cold anymore....isnt that what they want?? HELLO, VANCOUVER PD!!! It doesnt take a genius to figure that one out!

After Vancouver firefighters asked for an 8.2 percent raise, would you vote for any tax to increase public safety causes?

I thought that firefighters gave up their raise to save two firemen that were about to get laid off.... i could have sworn that i read an article about that recently

Bail set at $400K for alleged bank robber

18 years old, still a student in high school, and his life is ruined! So sad. But it makes me wonder if it was some sort of "initiation" (sp?) into the gang....

Local police agencies enforcing cell phone laws

I have a love/hate relationship with this law. I think its great that they are telling people that they need to put down their phones and focus more on their driving. I do think that it is a major distraction. However I think that this law should apply to ALL people, including law enforcement. I see cops driving down the road all the time talking on their phones AND looking at their computers at the same time--hows that for a distraction. Its really crappy that cops are treated like gods around here and are exempt from everything!

911 center plans shift to new computer system

I think this is great. Seeing as they are the people that we call in an emergency, it will be nice for them to have an updated system.

Random thoughts from an editor

Great story Lou. But I want to point one thing out to you. Just because I know that some of the posters on here will read this story and give you crap for an error. In the paragraph where you talk about where you took a trip to the grocery store, it reads 'grocery story'. Simple mistake. Just wanted to let you know.

Police searching for bank robbery suspect

She very closely matches the description of the woman who robbed First Independent on Monday. The only slight variation in description is the age. This report says in her 40's or 50's and the other one says late 30's or early 40's. Age is a very hard thing to guess. Other than that the descriptions are VERY close. I am going to guess that she did both robberies! Hopefully they find her. I work at a bank here in Vancouver...hopefully she stays away from us!

Car accident at Ridgefield wildlife refuge kills two

EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW BY NOW THAT SR52 IS HEARTLESS AND RUDE. JUST READ HIS COMMENTS ON EVERY OTHER ARTICLE HE HAS POSTED SOMETHING FOR.

AS FOR THIS COUPLE, I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE ARE AND WILL NOT JUDGE WHAT HAPPENED IN THIS INCIDENT, BUT I FEEL FOR THEIR FAMILIES DURING THEIR LOSS.
