Considerations in retiring to Washington was not having to complete state income tax returns, moderation in prevailing politics that lets pragmatism and government efficiency win, superior universities, good SAT scores,and a live and let live cultural attitude that stops short of being openly hippies or red necks, environmental sensitivity, a welcoming community that made us feel like we had always lived here, moderate climates in the Willamette Valley and parts of the Olympic Peninsula that come close to the human ecology ideal of 65% relative humanity and 65 degree F average temperature, and finally a thriving arts community with double the number of art galleries as much larger Denver, CO and more things to do as well.
