Aaron, Please help! I would really like to know why it is that those who make the decisions and selection of consultants and contractors in our government agencies such as City of Vancouver, Camas, Washougal and Clark County Municipal office as well as City of Woodland and Cowlitz County municipal office choose to hire contractors and firms from outside of the area like Oregon and Idaho and Montana when there is a contractor and firm in their local jurisdiction, with the same skill and expertise? I might add that many contractors and consultants who live in these same jurisdictions help keep those agency decision makers employed by paying taxes for living within their jurisdictional boundaries. If these agencies want to help the communities whom they are responsible for shouldn't they be hiring locally and not just hiring the large companies from outside the state? No wonder Clark and Cowlitz County have the highest unemployment in the state. all the Southwest Washington government agencies are hiring Oregon to do the work...

I know The Columbian doesn't usually cover the Kelso/Longview area but I thought I'd give you some info. The Sears store at Three Rivers Mall will officially be closing in two months It's been in business since 1988 and the old store in Longview was from the 50's. Don't know the exact date but assuming it will be right after the holidays. The Tualitin Kmart is almost gone as well along with the Vancouver Kmart a few years ago. I was the tipster that told you about the Vancouver closure by the way. :-) I just wonder if it's a trend and Sears/Kmart won't be around for long. Kelso Sears was a leased building, like Vancouver and Tualitin Kmarts. But just makes ya wonder what's next.
