before the gvt decided to step in, our country took care of the poor. right here in vancouver, on 78th where there's a community garden...that used to be the 'poor farm' where people who couldn't support themselves, lived & farmed there. the ymca/ywca, catholic missions, people give ing their neighbors food and helping them get back on their feet....
this country's people help those who cannot help themselves.
the problem isn't 'can't help', the problem is 'won't help' themselves.
do you believe the country owes these people? or is it the duty of their families?
Who created god? No one did. He has always existed. He is eternal. He has no beginning or end. When Moses asked God what he should tell the people his name is, he replied with the Hebrew name YHVH, that is to say, "I AM WHO I AM".
Why must people pray to a god who can obviously see everything, know all minds, and, thus, know all needs? When you have a relationship with someone, you communicate with them right? As a child, when you want or need something you can ask your parents or father for that need or desire.
Unless all that god NEEDS is to have his little ego puffed up by people bowing down and praying to him? God is without sin. He cannot sin. He is just, holy and righteous. There is no darkness in God.
Why did a perfect being create an imperfect world? He created a perfect world. When Adam and Eve ate from the forbidden tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they disobeyed God and that was the fall of man.
Why did a loving creator create a world where suffering reigns, specially since he could see it all ahead of time. Again, he did create a perfect world. When Adam and Eve disobeyed and their eyes were opened to know good and evil, that was the fall of man and the beginning of sin. If we were made without free will to choose then we would be like robots.
Why should I honor a father who killed his own son to atone for his own murder of all mankind? Because he is worthy of all honor. His Son, Jesus Christ, wilfully chose to follow his Father's will. He said, "I have the power to lay it down and the power to take it again". (See John 10:18)
How come we can't see the fiery angels who are guarding the Garden of Eden? In fact, where is the Garden of Eden? If it needs guarding, then it's still got to be here where we can find it? Or was that story just a lot of malarkey? I don't know about you, but I don't see any angels gaurding the Garden of Eden. The Garden of Eden is done with, we look towards our eternal home in heaven.
Why did Noah get away with incest? I'm not aware that Noah commmited the act of incest. More explanation can be found at http://www.propheticrevelation.com/mi...
Why do Christians worship the son and not his father? No wonder he keeps hammering the South and the Bible bib with hurricanes, tornados, oil spills and floods. The Son and the Father are one.
Why didn't Jesus come back to perfect his kingdom before the death of his apostles as he promised them he would? Where did he say that? He indwells every believer with the Holy Spirit.
Since god knows the future, then the future is predetermined. Thus no man woman or child is guilty since they had to do as god foresaw they would do. If they could do differently and break free from god's foreordaining knowledge, then god would not be all powerful, so he preordained all the evil in the world, and there is no free will. Thus, no sin. Sin is transgression of God's law. We are either slaves of sin to death or obedience unto righteousness.
If Jesus is in heaven, sitting on the right hand of his father how can he and the father and the holy ghost be one? He is God, he can do whatever he pleases.
All of those laws listed that you have broken are indeed sin. Sin is the transgression of God's holy law. The Bible says that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. It also says the wages of sin is death. Yes, I've commited transgression as well, there is no one that hasn't sinned. That's why we need Jesus Christ! His blood is our redemption and we receive forgiveness of sins by confessing them to God, turning from them and place our faith and trust in Jesus. Eternal life is a free gift, though you must accept that gift. May you call upon him today, for today is the day of salvation and whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
The definition of sin is "missing the mark". We've all missed the mark. Jesus said that whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has already commited adultery in his heart and whoever hates his brother is a murderer. You see, there is man's standard and there is God's standard; God's standard is what is going to make a difference for eternity. The Bible also says that covetousness is the same as idolatry. Once you see your sin is when you'll see your need for a saviour, and Jesus Christ is Him!

I'll attempt to answer all of your questions.

Was Jesus making that up?
No.

"but if you can only quote the authority of an old, out-of-date book and don't reply to the serious logic of my questions, then I won't be convinced."
That is what you don't understand yet. The "out-of-date book" is actually a living Word.

God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. You will not know God having a proud heart. You must humble yourself.

Do you ever ask probing questions about what you've been taught?
Yes.
Are you without sin?

Have you ever told a lie before?
Have you ever stolen anything before?
Have you ever looked on another woman to lust after her?
Have you always honored your mother and father?
Have you ever coveted after anything of your neighbors?
Have you put any gods before the living God?
Have you ever used Gods' name in vain?
Have you ever hated someone?
Have you always kept the Sabbath day holy?
