"With all due respect, Canzano's column was a bit more balanced than your blog entry . . ."

Absolutely. That's why I linked to it. I can admit when I'm wrong.

At the Class 3A District Track meet on May 12th, Adam Hall of Columbia River H.S. took second place in 100 meter dash. However, because of an alleged failure with the electronic timing system, the race results were scraped.

"It just a quirky thing," said Union's athletic coordinator, Cale Piland. The canceled results benefitted one Union High School athlete, Kinsley Ojukwu. The race was re-run on Friday, with parents, including myself, asking why do they have judges with stopwatches if they're not needed?

What is disturbing is that it has come to light that Piland mislead the track judges by saying that the rules did not allow for the stop-watch results to stand. He used this justification to get the re-run. We now know he lied.

Reportedly at a meeting of coaches, Columbia River coach Shawn McDonald protested that Hall should have been allowed to compete at the Regional event in Tacoma. On that re-run Friday, Hall had to compete in the long jump and then rush over to the 100 dash. Obviously tired, Hall took 5th in the dash. This was unfair.

In Tacoma at the Regional finals, Adam Hall said, "I should have been in that race." When he saw the winning times, he likely would be in the State finals.

There was no excuse for Cale Piland to mislead the judges. Union High School and Piland owe Hall and Columbia River High a sincere public apology for this shameful act of poor sportsmanship.

One lie can do a lot of damage to a young man's faith in fair play as well as tarnish this race. Hall wishes "Good luck" to Kinsley Ojukwu at the State finals.

Clark County athletes went 1 and 2 at the State Hammer throw meet today. Jon Lawson of Prairie took the state title for the second consecutive year with a throw of 209-6. Matthew Lloyd of Camas came in second with a throw of 197-10.
Outstanding close to a championship weekend!

1A Trico Girls Soccer All League Selections.I don't think it's been in the Columbian but it was in the Daily News. I'll just say that some of the 1A girls soccer coaches must have those heads buried in in the sand. To not have voted Morgan Atchley of Ridgefield to the 1st team is absurd. I believe she was the league leader in goals (missed 2 games with ankle injury). The goals (25) she scored was done in some limited ofensive time due to the fact that at times she was pulled out of a game or put on defense when games we're well in hand (kudos to the coach for that)to keep from padding stats or running up scores! She was a 1st team selection the last 2 years in 2A...Hmm.. guess 1A is a tougher division?? I would go as far as to say not only should she have been 1st team but offensive MVP. Scored 2 goals against La Center the 1st game (spuds won), made her pk the 2nd to help win that game. Game winning goal at Toledo, etc. etc. oh and at least help lead her team to the state tournament. Bottom line, some of these 1A coaches must still be cleaning the sand from those eyes!!

Back to the 1A Trico girls soccer all league selections, it seems the Daily News can't print the correct information. Morgan Atchley did make 1st team all league so I apologize to the coaches a little bit but stand by believing she was the offensive MVP of this league and for that they still have sandy eyes!!
