I don't need anything for free - I do quite well on my own. What concerns me is the growing number of poor and a system that no longer seems interested in providing equal opportunities. That trend can't continue indefinitely - look at Venezuela's recent past with puntofijismo and the popular election of Hugo Chávez. If that doesn't concern you, you aren't paying attention.
With the right personality and enough discouraged and poor people, you could literally have a socialist movement. Not a revolution with guns but with votes. All we have to do to avoid that outcome is reduce the gap a little bit - not eliminate it entirely. Middle classes don't revolt.
