I have been a sports broadcaster covering the GSHL since 1995 and have never come away from a event I was covering mad until last night at Skyview High School. We were there to cover the 4A district tournament. You would think a school hosting this event would make sure that everything was working properly. During the girls game we noticed the scoreboard was not showing the fouls for each player. Hard to do a broadcast without having all the info to pass along to our listening audience. After the game I approached the people at the scorers table and asked about the problem. First of all these people had never done this before. UNREAL!!! Second they said the clock had not worked all year in regards to posting that info on the scoreboard. I was really upset and talked with my color analyst and may have said some things I regret. Finally the AD came up to me and I asked how in the world you do a district tourney and the scoreboard not work. I was told it had been that way all year. At this point I was told that I could be removed from the gym and I challenged him on that. I simply would like to know how the 4A AD's allowed such a travesty of having your most important event to be held in a place that was not ready for it. You can tune in to sportsbeatradio.com on Tuesday at 11 am to hear more about this.
Also safety was a big key to our safety and an injury that took place on the floor. Alan Foulstone of the Plainsman was hit on the side of the eye that caused a lot of bleeding on the floor. The host team sent people on the floor without gloves and the necessary items to treat the cleanup of the blood. There were people on the floor without protection trying to clean this up with just paper towels. There were 5 people on the floor with only one person having gloves to clean this up. Then after this were cleaned up the dirty and blood soaked paper towels were thrown into the garbage about 10 feet from my position. Out there leading the cleanup fiasco was the AD.
Our personal safety was also at issue by several verbal threats directed at my broadcast partner and wife. I will ask for better security for my broadcast team from people that obviously know very little about the game of basketball. If the schools north of us want to know why there is little respect for them and their schools, last night was a great example. Learn about the game before you shoot your mouths off next. And the next time I receive verbal threats from you students I will stop the broadcast personally and call the police myself.
There is more to come and I plan of having a long talk with the principal of the school and all the AD's to see if we can make sure a travesty like this never happens again and we all can enjoy the playoffs........tune in sportsbeatradio.com Tuesday at 11 as we delve into this a lot deeper....NUFF SAID!!!
Insidesports, First I want to thank you for the service your provide to our sporting community. It's great the Kids and there parents get to watch replays of the games. I may not always agree with your view of a game but it is always entertaing. I have heard there will soon be an article regarding the obvous "frezze out" of the Evergreen girls on the all league team and I love that you have called out the 4A coaches to come on your show and explain how 2 teams Mt View - 0 league wins and battle ground - 2 league wins can make up 5 of the 15 players. No offense to the girls that made it but the coaches diminished thier award by not puting the best players on it. Justine Joudry was cleary the top 1 or 2 plyers in the league and Shamerika scot was easly one of the top 10 if not top 5. her 27 rebounds in 2 playoff games is proff of that. If they wanted to make a statment thats Ok. Don't give Jay coach of the year but to take it out on kids is horrible. I'm sure all the coaches talk to there players about character it's sad they showed none by hurting kids and dismissing there hard work and talent
