It's good to be mayor

It's disappointing to see the Columbian post only these "newsworthy" photos of events held at Erik Runyan Jewelers. On Facebook, where these photos were found, there are images of "Yappy Hour" where funds were raised for the Humane Society of Southwest Washington, "The Carve", held in October, raised over $13,000.00 for local charities. Runyans supports the First Friday Artwalk promoting local artists and performers, also on the Erik Runyan Jewelers Facebook page. With all the numerous events that benefit charities Erik Runyan Jewelers hosts for the community, the Columbian chose not to focus on the good Mr Runyan does for the area but to spotlight a fun event and put a negative tabloid spin on it. It's a shame The Columbian and this staff writer found this story printable and ignores truly newsworthy stories showing the good a local business man is doing in this tough economy.

What Will Vancouver Barracks Become?

Many groups in the past have tried to develop the Barracks or the Hospital as a proposed center for low rent artists studios, lofts and galleries. Let's hope this will get us closer to becoming a reality. Just think how this could impact the downtown Vancouver Core. Bring in the Artist and the rest of the business follow. Just look at the Pearl in PDX.
