For Wesley Banks to put up Newt Gingrich as some sort of Republican maverick who is challenging the establishment is one of the most ludicrous things I have ever seen someone suggest.
I guess Banks' reasoning ability is impaired on account of being under the influence of Koch.
I wonder where the slogan "you get what you pay for" came from.
Yes, sometimes you get what you pay for, but often you get less than what you pay for. Upon very rare occcasions you might even get more than you pay for.
In the case of the streets, I think the heart of the problem is that our city as most of the US is built on a suburban model where there is asphalt layed out all over the place so that people can have single-family homes with yards and stores with giant parking lagoons.
This model will break down as oil gets scarce and expensive. The sad fact is that most of suburbia is destined to turn into slums. When gas is $100 per gallon, people will be turning their cars into the wrecking yard and wishing the store and job were close enough to walk to.
"The panic you hear on the right is their constant effort to paint President Barack Obama as a weak protector of American national security, but ever since he stunned the world with the announcement of Osama bin Laden’s death by American Navy SEAL special forces, the tone of panic has increased. "
Larmon, that's news to me. Maybe if I watched Fox News all day like you apparently do I would reach the same conclusion you did.
Neither party has a clue what's going on with gas prices.
Ever heard of Peak Oil?
Did you know that one gallon of gasoline does the equivalent of 400 hours of human labor? At $10 an hour, that means gasoline should be $4000 per gallon.
That is the "true" price of gasoline. Unfortunately, it won't be long before we are paying something a lot closer to the true price.
I know no one wants to hear this, but the era of the personal automobile is probably soon to be over. Maybe electric vehicles will save us, but don't count on it.
Actually, I probably overstated the intermittency thing in relation to this particular news item.
In this particular case, I guess you could say it is really the seasonality of hydro that is the challenge, since it's not just wind they are having to shut down, they also shut down the nuke and fossil fuel plants.

Letter: Remember full definition of rights
The union rights that some Republican governors have been rolling back are ones for public employees.
Your hero, FDR, said it is not proper for public employees to be represented by unions.
Republicans are doing what FDR supported. Maybe you need to find a new hero. How about Al Sharpton?

And by the way:
Going around calling people racist because you disagree with them is undignified.
Start showing some self-respect, dude.

Kucinich returns to Washington state. Is House run in future?

"I am exciting that Kucinich is looking to fill a slot in Washington!"
Me too, Kucinich would be great for those of us who enjoy a good laugh. And he would be a gift that keeps on giving.
