Sorry, nailingit, I had to run an errand. But how about we set something up for next week?

And manthou, I do have journalism experience. I spent two years working for my college newspaper, including one as the Managing Editor.

After graduating, I joined the Columbian and spent five years on the Life team. I did a lot of clerk work but wrote several stories over the span of about five years.

That's an interesting distinction that the Seattle Times editor made. I think journalism experience is vital in this role; a lot of what I learned before taking this position has helped me over the past year+.

haha John didn't screw anything up. He's been a reporter, worked to keep our computers on (and fixed them when they weren't), and wore a few other hats.

And if there's enough interest, I would happily take some time to answer your questions.

Hey, all. I just wanted to let everyone know about an event that's coming up tomorrow.

We have a new web editor. His name is John Hill, and he's been with us at the Columbian since 1995. He took over Monday and will take part in a live web chat tomorrow. I'll be joining him.

You can get the details on the chat here:

http://www.columbian.com/news/2012/ap...

We're chatting with users about the site -- what are we doing right, what are we doing wrong, what we can do differently, and so on. If you have any feedback, questions, or comments for us .... join us!

The anonymous users have helped us out before; it was an anonymous user, after all, who suggested breaking the Letters to the Editor out into separate pages, instead of running them all on one page. I think that was a great suggestion for so many reasons.

You do have to log in with Facebook, Twitter, or OpenID to ask questions and take part, but anyone can watch the chat.

And no, nailingit, if you ask how soon I'm going to leave and enter a new profession, I'm not answering that one. :-)

In any event, I thought you all might like to know.

I suppose the best way to get your point across would be to make well-thought, coherent, rational, and respectful arguments, backed up by credible sources when applicable.

But that's just me.

Ha, nailingit. I was in New Orleans! I copped to drinking a beer on two occasions, admitted to trying a hurricane, and lamented the lack of a microbrew scene down there. (And on none of those occasions was I remotely intoxicated!) I'm sorry for acknowledging the existence of alcohol in New Orleans; I won't make that mistake again.

And I swore once! The Treme Brass Band really was great! I had a lot of fun there! You would have sworn, too, if you had been there! (In all seriousness, though, that was unwarranted on my part. Not my best judgment, I'll admit.)

In any event, I'm flattered that you keep up with my feed. I hope that you find some modicum of entertainment and humor every once in awhile.

Oh, and, yes, that's a masked swear word. Don't mask swear words, and don't swear.

nailingit, I removed it because of the masked swear word -- and those are against our community guidelines.

In case you haven't seen them before, you can review the guidelines here: http://www.columbian.com/guidelines/

Now, granted, maybe you meant to say "Payback is a waffle" or "Payback is a blanket" and just didn't feel like filling in the blanks. But I doubt it.

(By the way, to everyone who detests CAPTCHA -- I thought you would find it amusing that I now have to enter CAPTCHA when posting to the Columbian's Facebook page. No one is safe -- not even Facebook!)

goldenoldie/ELISI, I would most definitely rescue the forum members.

Then I would put you all on your own island and come by once a month to make sure you have food and water.

Kidding! Promise!

Columbia River Crossing forum

Hi, John. Thanks for the kind words!

But I'm not able to keep the comments when I move the CRC thread up next time. When I move the thread up, all I'm really doing -- and all I'm able to do -- is create a new forum. When I do that, there is no way to bring the comments along with it. I wish there was a better option, but my hands are tied.

The best I can do is link to the old forum when I put the new one up. Like I said, I'd love to do more, but we just don't have the tech capabilities right now. I wish I had better news for you.
