Say something...

Union's game is Friday night 8:00 at Showare Center in Kent. By the way I'm curious as to why your staff found it more important to post an article about Bay losing on the front of the Sports Page rather than an article about Union winning?? Just wondering!

Paul - I would like to say that I appreciate the way you cover the positive aspects of high school games (who played well) and dont report on the negative (who didn't). These kids are just learning about what it is like to be somewhat in the spotlight and adults sometimes forget they are kids. You don't and that is refreshing to see. I think the GSHL website could learn some "reporting" tips from the Columbian. It is too negative and breaks these kids down instead of building them up.

Paul - I would really like to understand the waiver situation under WIAA and how without moving, players are eligible to play in yet a second school that is not the school they would naturally go to. McDonagh of Skyview is an example. Played last year at LaSalle in Oregon now playing at Skyview. Never moved and does not live anywhere near Skyview boundaries. Why would he have not had to sit out a year? I would understand a waiver to Fort for him (as he lives in those boundaries) when he left a private school in Oregon, but why and how does he get a waiver to Skyview? This is all neatly laid out in his own personal football website (http://rock3football.com)by the way which is clearly aimed at getting him recruited for football. It also seems clear that he picked Skyview for obvious reasons of athletics, which transfer waivers are NOT supposed to be based on. Would love an explanation on why a waiver was granted to eliminate his one year waitng period.

Mr. Burris and coaches of Evergreen High School,I was very disappointed in the way the game was handled Friday night and not that you lost 48 to 0 with season 0-7 but that you also lost the opportunity to teach the game of football to the students who have worked hard this year and have been 100% a part of this team.  "Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do" - John Wooden.

You had no possibility to win this game yet you continued to play just some of the players and had not used this game to teach the players who do not normally get much playing time. When the QB got injured you did not play the JV QB who is always standing by to go in. Another teachable moment that you did not take advantage of. You have no business being the evergreen high school coach because you cannot teach. You told me that winning is important to your organization so my argument would be if you cannot even do that then you need to teach all the students more of the game by giving them more of an opportunity to get in the game. "The main ingredient of stardom is the rest of the team" and  "Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out."

Ridgefield had a double header Sat with LaCenter and got in a game between sleet vs Hockinson (not great results for the Spuds) but neither set of scores showed up in the box scores. There is a new coach and he may not be providing the info to the correct location. He was told not to call in the results and do it online is my guess. Is that correct? Did anyone receive any of the info on the games? If you need it, his name is Josh Leedy 541-227-3105 leed9481@yahoo.com

The Trico 1A girls golf tournament is going on right now at Capitol City Golf course and it would have been great to see that reported here today. All four of the La Center girls that competed on Monday made the cut to compete on Tuesday.

Paul Valencia - do you know why the 1A Trico League all county baseball team was never published? What is someone at the Columbian doing to get the information and publish it? The kids deserve their names in print just like the Skyview or Union athletes. Last years 1A Girls golf was never published either.....
