Sci-Fi Vibes in the Library

Teacher-librarians, including the one in this article, also teach real science research to the kids every day, and teach lessons on the real science behind the fiction...BUT last night's event at Pacific Middle School was about sci-fi fantasy fiction because it is the most popular genre to get this age group reading, and because it was put on by the student Sci-Fi Club and Book Club at the school. Also, there were many books available in the library and book fair that were in a variety of genre for all tastes and interests, including non-fiction factual books as well. It was an awesome event for kids of all ages and many adults found out about the current budget crisis that may result in the elimination of all school librarians in the Evergreen District--so get involved, contact your Legislators and School Board, and let's find a way to stop that from happening.

Our Readers' Views on the Nov. 2 general election

Charlotte - you really think the "who" or "whom" grammatical rule is worthy of an editorial and worthy of judging a teacher or candidate? That is ridiculous. Have you spent much time in schools lately? Educators are working endless hours doing everything they can to help kids today, in spite of a culture that does not seem to value schools, and whether to use "who" or "whom" is the least of their concerns. It saddens me that you choose not to trust teachers--they are parents too Charlotte, and must juggle their own parenting & be a pseudo-parent for many students who have no support at home. Yet you would trust Paul Harris, a man who purposely didn't pay his taxes, to be our Rep, instead of a hard-working educator, all because you don't like unions and are obsessed with grammar? What a strange way to decide a vote.

Probst, Stonier for 17th District positions

As an Independant voter who despises divisive party politics, I prefer to vote for those who have integrity. Therefore, YES, I do strongly believe that car tabs and lies are the issues. If a candidate is proven to be a cheater and liar I cannot in good conscience vote for that person. If you do vote for a perosn you know to be dishonest, simply because they have a party attachment, I think that is sad and is the problem today. For me, and many voters out there, it is about trust, not parties.

Harris running again in the 17th District

"Business Guy" doesn't seem like the correct label for Harris; perhaps "Typical Same Old Same Old Politician Guy" would be more accurate. As an Independent voter and life-long resident of Vancouver, and as a person who distrusts politicians, I trust Monica Stonier's support for families, businesses, and education much more than Paul Harris' words and his desire once again for power. Stonier seems to be a true political outsider who wants to help our local area; Harris is the typical partisan politician who plays the same game as the rest of them.
