SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The Sacramento Kings have picked up the option on the contract of coach Paul Westphal for the 2011-12 season.

Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie made the announcement Monday before the team played its final home game of the season against Houston.

The Kings are 25-55 with two games remaining in Westphal’s first season as coach. That’s tied with Golden State and Washington for the third-worst record in the NBA, but an improvement over last year’s 17-win season.
