BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have claimed right-hander Santo Luis off waivers from the Chicago White Sox and optioned him to Double-A Portland.

Luis went 5-4 with 14 saves in Class A last year.

To make room on the 40-man roster, infielder Jed Lowrie was transferred from the 15- to the 60-day disabled list. He has been sidelined by mononucleosis.

Also Wednesday, right-hander Boof Bonser returned from his rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Pawtucket. In two starts while rehabbing a right groin strain, Bonser allowed 12 runs in 6 1-3 innings.
