KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — Hundreds of people, many waving American flags and holding homemade signs, turned out in Klamath Falls to welcome home Oregon National Guard troops back from Iraq.
Seventy-four members of C Troop, 1st Squadron, 82nd Cavalry were back in Klamath Falls on Sunday.
Capt. Michael Whalen says he was surprised at the turnout, and it meant a lot to the soldiers.
Whalen told the Herald and News newspaper that the unit was on a personal security detail in Baghdad, guarding U.S. officials that included Vice President Joe Biden and celebrities such as James Gandolfini and Dave Chappelle.
