A man who exited a Tri-Met bus involved in a Saturday night accident in downtown Portland that killed two pedestrians is being sought by investigators still trying to piece together what happened.

The Portland Police Bureau’s Major Crash Team is asking the public’s help identifying the passenger who got off the bus at Northwest Broadway and Glisan Street before it turned onto southbound Broadway and struck five pedestrians, killing two, including 22-year-old Danielle Sale of Vancouver.

Also killed was Jenee Hammel, 26, of Gresham, Ore. The other pedestrians were Jamie and Ryan Hammel of Portland, who suffered what police said were minor injuries, and Robert Gittings, an Idaho resident, who suffered a critical injury.

Sale, Gittings and Jenee Hammel were pinned under the bus when police arrived.

Anyone with information on the passenger who exited the bus is asked to call Officer Peter Kurronen at 503-823-2208.
