PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Boston Red Sox executive has filed papers to run for lieutenant governor in Rhode Island.
Jeremy Kapstein is a former baseball agent and current senior adviser for baseball projects for the Red Sox. He filed papers Thursday with the state Board of Elections to allow him to raise money and take other steps for a run for the job.
He filed as a Democrat, which would put him up against sitting Democratic Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts in a primary.
Kapstein hasn’t returned requests for comment by phone and e-mail. He didn’t answer the door at the house where he’s registered to vote.
The lieutenant governor position has few official duties. Another candidate is Robert Healey Jr., who’s making a third run for the job on a platform of eliminating the office to save the state money.
