PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State Police say a van carrying members of a San Francisco-based band crashed on Interstate 5 north of Medford, killing one person and injuring two others.

Lt. Gregg Hastings says the group played a show in Eugene, and was returning home Monday morning when the driver lost control after falling asleep.

Hastings declined to name the band or any victims until relatives are notified.

The man who died in the crash had been ejected from a rear cargo area. Hastings says nine men were traveling in the van and none used safety restraints.

An ambulance took the driver and one passenger to a Medford hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening.

Hastings described the group as a metal band. He says names should be released by Monday evening.
