PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — PacifiCorp may join with Portland General Electric in building a 210-mile high-voltage line between Salem and Boardman.

The companies say a partnership would help control costs on the $825 million “Cascade Crossing” project, originally proposed by PGE.

The utilities say the line is need to increase capacity and handle electricity generated by Columbia River Gorge windfarms.

The Oregonian reports the Forest Service and Oregon Energy Facility Siting Council have already hosted hearings on the project, and construction could start in 2013.
