FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) — Forest Grove Fire Chief Michael Kinkade says his crews were all out on calls and he was doing paperwork when a man burst through the firehouse door and yelled that his wife was having a baby.

Kinkade radioed for a fire engine to return to the station, then grabbed his medical gear and headed to the parking lot to help deliver the baby. Four minutes later, parents Jessica and Evan O’Rear had a healthy 6-pound, 8-ounce baby boy. Mother and baby were soon transferred to an ambulance for the trip to a hospital.

Kinkade says Friday’s birth was his 29th on-duty delivery but his first solo assist without a fire engine crew or ambulance on the scene.
