LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Ex-NBA player and Michigan State star Jay Vincent has been indicted for what authorities say was an Internet employment scam that bilked about 20,000 jobseekers out of about $2 million.
The U.S. attorney’s office says the 51-year-old Vincent and 53-year-old Anthony Portee are charged with mail fraud, and Vincent is charged with an income tax violation. Both live in Lansing.
Vincent lawyer Charles Ford says his client is “a legitimate businessman” and is cooperating with investigators. A number listed for Portee was disconnected.
Vincent earned an NCAA championship when he played at Michigan State from 1979-81. He played mainly for Dallas in a nine-year NBA career.
