A Clark County man is awaiting extradition from Peru, where he was arrested on suspicion of child rape and other related charges, according to a news bulletin issued by the State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service.

George Alvin Viste was arrested in Lima, Peru, on July 30. He’s being held in the Callao Prison in Lima on suspicion of rape of a child, child molestation and incest.

Viste is wanted in Washington on a total of seven charges, according to the release. His age is not available.

The DSS has representatives in U.S. embassies worldwide who work to find suspects hiding in other countries. Agents found that Viste had crossed from Bolivia into Peru, where he was believed to be hiding in a remote and rugged jungle.

In late July, agents learned that he was traveling by air from the jungle region to Lima. As Viste approached the airport baggage claim, a DSS agent called his name. When he responded, he was taken into custody by Peruvian Interpol authorities.
