SINGAPORE (AP) — The head of the U.S. Olympic Committee says scheduling conflicts kept some top U.S. teenage athletes from competing at the inaugural Youth Olympics in Singapore.

USOC chief executive Scott Blackmun says the U.S. team has embraced equally the sports, culture and education activities of the Youth Games.

The U.S. team has won just four gold medals so far, fewer than Azerbaijan and Hungary and well behind the 28 golds of China, the event’s leader.

The Youth Olympics features 3,600 athletes aged 14 to 18 from 204 national Olympic committees competing in 26 sports from Aug 14-26.
