Oudin out in opening match at Pilot Pen

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — American Melanie Oudin (oo-DAN’) has been upset by lucky loser Dominka Cibulkova (sib-ohl-KOH’-vah) 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in the first round of the Pilot Pen.

Cibulkova was a late replacement in the draw, after Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (pahv-lu-chen-KOH-vah) withdrew Sunday with a hip injury.

In other early matches, Russian Nadia Petrova (NAH’-dee-uh peh-TROH’-vah) rallied after being down one set and 5-2 in the second to beat American Varvara Lepchenko (lehp-CHEN’-koh) 1-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Petrova also was a late addition to the field after an ankle injury forced Ana Ivanovic (ee-VAH’-noh-vich) to withdraw.

Elena Dementieva (ehl-AY’-nah deh-mehn-tee-AY’-vah) beat Spaniard Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2.

In the men’s draw, American Donald Young beat Stephane Robert (steh-FAHN’ row-BEHR’) of France 6-1, 6-2.
