PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Energy says Oregon has completed work for more than 30 percent of the homes the state planned to weatherize, qualifying it for more federal funding.

The agency said Tuesday that Oregon has weatherized more than 1,750 homes with funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

As a result of the progress made so far, the state will now have access to an additional $19 million in federal weatherization funding for Oregon low-income families.

The Energy Department also announced that eight high-performing weatherization agencies in Oregon have been selected to receive more than $7 million for two projects — installing solar systems and energy efficiency alternatives.

Weatherization organizations in Coos Bay, Corvallis, McMinnville, Medford, Portland, Redmond, Roseburg and St. Helens will receive the funding.
