SEATTLE (AP) — Environmental groups say they intend to sue the Washington Department of Ecology and two clean air agencies for not limiting global warming pollution from oil refineries.

The Washington Environmental Council and the Cascade chapter of the Sierra Club said Tuesday the agencies have failed to require the state’s five oil refineries to install technology to control greenhouse gases. They say not doing so puts public health and the environment at risk.

Ecology spokesman Seth Preston says the state is reviewing the groups’ notice. He says that the state is a national leader in addressing greenhouse gases.

Two of the state’s refineries are in Anacortes. The others are in Blaine, Ferndale and Tacoma.
