There’s a leader in the clubhouse for the worst offseason free-agent signing in the NFL.
And, no surprise here, it’s the Cincinnati Bengals.
Last spring, the Bengals gave a tryout to Bryant and Terrell Owens. Thinking Bryant was a better complement to receiver Chad Ochocinco, Cincinnati gave him a four-year contract worth $28 million, of which $8 million was guaranteed.
But Bryant’s knee, which underwent surgery last season, began to act up on Bryant this summer. So the Bengals went out and signed Owens.
Owens has been the team’s most productive receiver, and on Sunday, the Bengals cut Bryant, paying him $8 million without him even appearing in a preseason game.
The Bungles, indeed.

Speaking of casting off dead weight, there are reports out of Chicago that Manny Ramirez will soon be joining the White Sox.
After Ramirez was placed on waivers by the Dodgers, the White Sox put a claim on the slugger and had until Tuesday to work out a deal with Los Angeles.
Sources expect the deal to be completed on today, but it’s unknown if it will be via a trade or if the Dodgers will just let him go.
After watching Manny on Sunday, we’re guessing the latter.
Ramirez went to the plate to pinch-hit Sunday with two runners on in the sixth inning and the Dodgers trailing the Rockies 8-2.
Manny was then ejected from the game for arguing balls and strikes — after one pitch.
