TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama coach Nick Saban says safety Mark Barron will miss the Crimson Tide’s bowl game with an injury to his right pectoral muscle.
Saban says Barron had surgery to repair a torn muscle and started rehabilitating the injury, but won’t be back in time for a bowl. Barron was hurt in the regular-season finale against Auburn.
He told reporters after the game that he had torn his pectoral trying to break up a second-quarter touchdown catch by Emory Blake. Barron said it affected him later on a 70-yard TD pass to Terrell Zachery when he couldn’t raise his arm.
Barron leads the team with 75 tackles and also has three interceptions.
He was a third-team All-American last season after leading the Southeastern Conference with seven interceptions.
