Louisiana Tech defeats Southern Methodist 69-64

RUSTON, La. (AP) — Brandon Gibson had his first career double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds and Louisiana Tech defeated Southern Methodist 69-64 on Wednesday night.

The Bulldogs (6-2), who improved to 6-0 when outrebounding their opponent, won the battle of the boards 42-27 against the Mustangs (4-4).

Louisiana Tech trailed 29-28 at halftime, but DeAndre Brown scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half and the Bulldogs made 12 of 22 shots (54.5 percent) after the break.

Louisiana Tech scored five straight to take a 41-39 lead on Brown’s 3 with 14:02 left. The Bulldogs wouldn’t trail the rest of the way.

Lonnie Smith scored 11 points and was 3 for 3 from behind the arc as Louisiana Tech shot a season-best 56.3 percent from 3-point range (9 of 16).

Papa Dia led SMU with 20 points. Robert Nyakundi added 15 points and Justin Haynes had 12 for the Mustangs.
