Hungry people and volunteers willing to wrap gifts are needed in advance of the 12th annual holiday party hosted by the Northeast Hazel Dell Neighborhood Association.

The free holiday party — billed as the only Christmas celebration some families can afford — is set for 6 p.m. Dec. 16 at Sarah J. Anderson Elementary School, 2215 N.E. 104th St. As always, there will be gifts for children, prizes, refreshments, photos with Santa and much more. Many local businesses and neighborhood groups support the event.

You can help put the party on. Here’s how:

• Hazel Dell neighborhood president Bud Van Cleve is collecting donations and gifts for the children. Call him at 360-695-1466.

• Firefighters from Fire District 6 will be serving pancakes — “short stacks for a tall cause” — between 8 and 10 a.m. Saturday at the restaurant, 816 N.E. 98th Circle (behind McDonald’s). Tickets cost $7 and are available at Fire District 6 headquarters, 8800 N.E. Hazel Dell Ave. Cash is preferred but checks are payable to the Northeast Hazel Dell Neighborhood Association.

In addition to enjoying a pancake breakfast, kids of all ages are invited to tour a fire engine and sit on Santa’s lap. For more information call 360-576-1195.
