Talking Points 12/20

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

We hope to never again complain about two weeks in between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl.

Yeah, it seems like a long time, but now that the Northwest is experiencing more than a month between big games in college football, we know two weeks is nothing.

For the first time since the BCS came into play, a Northwest school is in the championship game. And that means more than a month of analysis on the radio talk shows, a month of Team X must establish the run, Team Y must contain the other team’s speed.

Blah blah blah.

Hey, it has to be done. Lot of air time to fill. Plus, it’s the biggest sporting event in the Northwest since the Seahawks played in the Super Bowl. And it’s the biggest sporting event for Oregon since the Blazers last played in the NBA Finals in 1992.

Unfortunately for us in Vancouver, the airwaves leak over into our great state and we sports fans can’t get away from Duck-talk.

We get it. It’s a big deal.

But the layoff, and college football’s fraud of a system, make for a dreadful month of talk, talk, talk with no action.
