Amtrak adds two trains for holiday travel crunch

Amtrak is adding extra round trips between Portland and Seattle on Thursday and Sunday to accommodate holiday travelers.

Regular adult one-way fares between Vancouver and Seattle start as low as $36 and range up to $48. However, trains are selling out. All Amtrak Cascades trains require reservations by visiting www.AmtrakCascades.com or calling 800-USA-RAIL (800-872-7245).

Amtrak normally operates five round-trip trains daily on the north-south line through Vancouver, including the long-haul Coast Starlight between Seattle and Los Angeles. The Empire Builder also serves Vancouver, on the east-west line through the Columbia River Gorge to and from Chicago.

The additional southbound train will depart Seattle at 1 p.m. Thursday and Sunday, with the northbound return trip departing Portland at 7 p.m. each day.
