DEKALB, Ill. (AP) — Northern Illinois quarterback DeMarcus Grady has joined the school’s basketball team.

NIU basketball coach Ricardo Patton said Tuesday that the 6-1, 203-pound junior would join the basketball team for the rest of the season. Patton lauded Grady’s “great attitude” as an asset. NIU’s football team finished the season with an 11-3 record.

Patton says Grady has to work into basketball shape and the team will know more about what he can offer as it moves into the conference season. Grady says he thinks he’ll be in “pretty good” basketball shape in a week or so.

The school says Grady will return to the football team next year after the basketball season.
