CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — The Philadelphia Union have signed 15-year-old midfielder Zach Pfeffer as the team’s first homegrown player under Major League Soccer rules,

Pfeffer recently completed a two-week training trip with Hoffenheim in Germany.

He becomes the fourth-youngest to sign an MLS contract, following 14-year-old Freddy Adu with D.C. United in 2004, 15-year-old Fued Ibrahim with FC Dallas in 2007 and 15-year-old Diego Fagundez with New England last month.

Pfeffer’s agreement was announced Wednesday. He turns 16 on Jan. 6.
