SEATTLE (AP) — Holiday travel is all about the weather and timing.

Mostly clear skies and dry runways are expect to keep things calm in Washington state on Thursday, the busiest day of the season in airports and on highways.

The Washington Department of Transportation says picking the right time to hit the road will make your trip shorter. According to the DOT website, for example, those traveling north on I-5 from Bellingham to Canada should avoid setting out between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Sea-Tac Airport spokesman Perry Cooper says things are flowing smoothly at the airport, thanks to a cooperative weather forecast.
