MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. (AP) — A King County sheriff’s spokesman says two teens were shot and wounded Tuesday afternoon when they encountered two other male teens on the Lake Wilderness Trail in Maple Valley, southeast of Seattle.

Sgt. John Urquhart says it appears that an 18-year-old boy and his 16-year-old girlfriend were both hit by the same bullet. KIRO-TV reports the boy is in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle while the girl is in stable condition.

Urquhart says the two other male teens have been arrested and a handgun was recovered.

The spokesman says words were exchanged on the trail — “something to do with gang colors.”
