WASHINGTON (AP) — Rider opened the game with an 11-1 run and maintained that advantage nearly the rest of the way to defeat Howard 78-64 on Tuesday night for its third win in a row.

Rider’s Justin Robinson hit a career-high five 3-pointers to finish with 22 points.

The Broncs (9-5), who entered the game eighth in the nation in 3-point shooting percentage at 42.5 percent, connected on 9 of 19 from behind the arc against the Bison (2-9), often with wide-open looks.

The Bison attempted to chip away at the Broncs’ double-digit lead, but each time they drew within striking distance, Rider came up with a clutch shot. Howard never got closer than eight points in the second half.

Howard, which has lost nine of 10 since an opening win over Bowling Green, was led by Mike Phillips, who scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half.
